NIDCAP is a comprehensive and evidence-based Training Program that aims to improve the care and longterm development of preterm infants.
In January 2021 we started the first NIDCAP Training in an african country with four NIDCAP Trainees. Over the last year we met with the Rwandan group two times per month for online Training Sessions.
During these Training sessions we practice to observe preterm infants behavior. Reading the infants behavior helps to identify their strengths and vulnerabilities and consequently adapt the environment and the care to the infants and families unique needs.
Especially in countries with little technical equipment, the developmentally supportive NIDCAP approach may contribute to a more sensitive, stress- and pain reducing and family centered care.
This Pro Bono Training is a pilot project and enables the Rwandan trainees to implement this approach in their hospital.
